Although many thiefs target jewelry and other valuables, it is becoming a new trend that thiefs are targeting your identity. That’s right, that credit statement just sitting on your desk has all your important information for them to become you and cost you a lot of money and heartache.
Just like you should secure your mail with a locking mailbox, you need to protect your mail inside your house. Often just shredding unwanted or needed documents will do the trick, but if you need to keep something important it’s a smart idea to lock it away. It’s an unfortunate fact; we are getting walk-in customers coming in looking to beef up security because either they or someone they know have recently been broken into. It usually happens when no one is home. No cars in the driveway, all the lights are off, and you are the perfect target. Here’s how to protect yourself:
Our first suggestions is always to invest in a high-quality safe to protect your possessions. Now you may be thinking: I just got a great deal on a safe a Costco, I’m set. Unfortunately this is exactly what a burglar wants to see when they break into your home!
Cheap safes that you would purchase at Costco or Home Depot may seem like a cheap bargain at the time, but that is exactly what you are buying. CHEAP!! Arrow Revolution – Never worry about keys again!
One of the newest products to hit our shelves is the brand new Arrow Revolution keyless entry lock. We like it a lot more than the Schlage keyless that came out about a year ago. There are three different Arrow Revolution products.
All three of these are excellent products. I installed one on our family’s back-garage door and everyone loves it! I know that the house is always locked up and the family is protected, where they get the ease of typing in a code and they are in the door. This is perfect for the little one who doesn’t want to fish a key out of her backpack after a day at school and perfect for me when I get home from work. Enjoy!
#1 – Arrow Revolution Touchscreen Deadbolt
The Arrow Revolution Touchscreen deadbolt is extremely weather resistant. This beauty will take place of your existing deadbolt and provide you with a way into your home when you don’t have (or want) your keys. Arrow provides you with the option of automatic locking, so you never have to worry about locking the door behind you; this deadbolt has your back.
#2 – Arrow Revolution Push-Button Deadbolt
If you don’t like the idea of the touchscreen, then this lock is right up your alley. This deadbolt is still full electronic, so all you have to do is push the buttons and you’re in. No twisting, no turning, no fishing for keys. With the option to automatically lock behind you, you will never have to think to yourself, “did I lock the front door?” You might not have, but Arrow did for you!
#3 – Arrow Revolution Touchscreen Lever
If you’re door doesn’t currently have a deadbolt set up and you do not feel like doing any drilling, then this Revolution product will be perfect for you. This lever set will take the place of your old knob or lever and give you the convenience of not hauling around another key. You can order this lock in any of the normal functions (always locked from the outside or always unlocked unless you choose to lock it). This lock is very similar to #1, only it takes the place of a lever instead of a deadbolt.

There was a recent news article published in the New York Times regarding fake locksmiths all across the country. Seattle Locksmith was the target search, that brought up another local locksmith. It is always good to see a problem being fixed, especially when it will benefit Bulger Safe and Lock and all the other local Seattle Locksmiths.
Since the time of the article, it does appear that Google has began taking steps to fix the issue that so many local business around the United States, not just Seattle, have been battling for years now. It is our hope this change will not only benefit all the local Seattle Locksmiths, but will benefit the people who use these services.
When deciding what locksmith to use, you should do some research beforehand. You could not only be scammed, but could be making yourself very vulnerable. Using a non-licensed, non-bonded, and/or non-insured locksmith can be very dangerous! Be sure to hire a licensed, bonded, and insured business. You should also check out the Better Business Bureau’s website to make sure that the company has a positive rating.
Why an alarm system is simply not enough – Steps to keep your house secure
As a dog I can hear and smell fear well before my owner. When I do, I can alert them or scare off a would be vandal. However I cannot be on duty 24/7.
So I recommend these steps in keeping your house safe, family protected, and your personal belongings from being taken:
First off, making your house less inviting from the street can help deter an intruder. Keep bushes cut back, have lights on or motion sensor lights, and give your house a “someone is home” appearance.
Second, and most important, is to research and invest in high-quality bump-, pick-, and drill-resistant locks. Especially now, with the internet, the knowledge and tools for beating your low-quality locks are available to everyone. Make sure your windows and slider doors are also secure. You should be able to secure the windows in the closed position and the ventilation position during the summer.
Third, an alarm system can act as a deterent, however they only let you know once someone has broken in. Monitoring does not insure a quick police response, but offers a good peace of mind if you are away, and to alert you (and maybe a neighbor) to check the house out and make sure it is secure. The alarm can also limit the amount of time an intruder might want to stay in the house. It could be a difference of 2 minutes with the alarm ringing or 2 hours, while they spend the day going through your stuff.
Finally, having a safe or safe room can dramatically reduce losing irreplaceable items. Only trust commercial type safes with the proper ratings for fire and burglary (The ones you find at other places are not going to hold up when you want them to no matter what they may try and tell you). It is also extremely important to bolt down the safe to assure that the thieves cannot take the whole thing with them.
Remember, thieves want to be in and out as quickly as possible. Many times a thief will see a Medeco deadbolt and head right to the next house. By following these simple steps you can make sure that you are not the next victim of a burglary.
