Bulger Protected | Restricted | Proprietary Key and Lock Options

Medeco and Abloy are the best high-security keyways.
Both Abloy and Medeco are protected and proprietary to each locksmith.
Bulger is the only Abloy Protec2 dealer in Seattle and 1 of 2 in the entire Northwest.
“Do Not Duplicate” keys do not mean someone cannot easily get a duplicate.
The only way to protect your business, home, or condo is to use a proprietary keyway.
Bulger keyways include: Medeco, Abloy, SSS, Primus, ASSA, Medeco Keymark.

The four main protected/proprietary key options:

Option 1 – Bulger High-Security Medeco or Abloy Protec2
(*highest recommendation — budget-depending*)

  • Protected Keyway
    • Employees cannot get keys made
    • Only Bulger has the blank and only you are authorized
    • Keys must be cut by Bulger
    • ID must match authorization list
    • Protected by law
  • All One Unit
    • Remove whole lock portion to rekey
    • Have Bulger come out or you can remove yourself and have us rekey in shop
  • More info
    • Majority of restaurants, businesses, and other commercial clients use this option

Option 2 – Bulger SSS Proprietary Keyway

  • Protected Keyway
    • Employees cannot get keys made
    • Keys must be cut by Bulger
    • ID must match authorization list

    • Have us come out or pull yourself and bring to shop
  • Proprietary Cylinders
    • Keyway is protected, but cylinders are not considered “high-security”
    • “Bump-proof” upper pins reduce chance of lock-picking or lock-bumping.
  • More info
    • Similar key protection to Medeco with slightly lower security cylinder
    • Similar features, budget-friendly price tag

Option 3 – Bulger Medeco Keymark

  • Protected Keyway
    • Employees cannot get keys made
    • Only Bulger has the blank and only you are authorized
    • Keys must be cut by Bulger
    • ID must match authorization list
    • Protected by law
  • Interchangeable core system
    • Allows for immediate rekey if key falls into the wrong hands
    • Use special “control” key to remove only the core and swap in a new one
    • Bring the old core into Bulger to have rekeyed at your convenience
  • More info

Option 4 – Basic Standard Keyway Options (eg. Schlage, Kwikset, Best, Weiser, Yale, Corbin, etc.)

  • Zero key protection. Employees or tenants can go down to hardware store, Fred Meyer, or Home Depot and get endless copies of key made.
  • Remove whole cylinder to rekey (have us come out or bring to shop)
  • Cylinders are not “high-security.” Zero protection against lock-picking, bumping, and drilling.
  • We are always willing to provide this type of cylinder keyed to your key, but in most situations recommend going with one of the first three options.

All three options can be set up on a master key system
